Deep in the heart of the desert
Lies a place of no return
Until you do
Earth has seen all of the sun
Since my first visit
Since my last visit here
When with a full heart
And an empty womb
I buried a promise in its tomb
Which lies hidden far below
The surface of where such places go
I left it wrapped in blood, in skin
And returned to what had been
Home
Yet home had changed
Home was gone;
It took a full year
To come back here
And find where I belong
Now, with a heart as empty
As my full, swollen belly
I start digging
And digging
And digging
Until, covered in dirt
(The blood-red black
Of a vintage Shiraz)
I uncover the gold
Within all that hurt
The promise of
My long lost treasure:
A child begotten
With so much pleasure
By my own forgotten
Other
Mother
Who rises and gives birth
To a new dawn on earth
Mum,
A gentle pat on the bum
Crying,
I am LIFE
Born deep in the heart
Of the desert
At a place of no return
