it's time for me to leave this city
that lately I loved to call my home
there are too many one way streets
under a cold blue street lamp
when I first arrived
you turned to me
with such a look in your eyes
and bade me come inside
get to know you like no other dared
we filled this town with passion
every window in every building
blazed with reflections
of our radiance and delight
you adored me for my lyrics
and the treasures I cherished
in the quaint shopfronts
and out of the way cafés
you longed to see appreciated
you loved that I loved this city
the way you did
but you adored my adoration
and your heart was over full
attached to your own imagery
there was no room left my weakness
no questions, no wrong turns
my peculiar marginalia
there was no room left here for me
I love you, I adore you
and I'll never know the truth
I know less and less it seems
I leave these city limits
hoping at last to find
under an ordinary street lamp
someone happy to lose the map
