An acid tongue.
Down and out,
I look up slowly…
Hot air balloons are drifting
Across the vast, wide open sky
Muttering, spluttering, blowing
Bubble gum and a random bunch
Of thoughts come popping out.
They splash against the ceiling
Of the houses of the gods, then
Stick around for a little while
Before they let lose and tumble
Topsy turvy to the ground.
“Peter Pan is not a man” says one
And I loudly chuckle; “Let go from
The waist below” states another
Under whose weight I nearly
Buckle; “The insidious is ridiculous”
One floats, which lands quite gently;
The last I see reads “An eye for me”
And this seems rather too friendly
Turn to my side and watch a skimpy
Female deer, busy licking a nasty
Wound on her poor little one’s rear
The stag by their side is staggering
In size, his antler is electric and sends
Sparks flying along my spine. His eyes
Look wise and filled with ancient lore,
When suddenly he jolts the family -
And then there’s little fawns galore
Slowly I turn my spinning head to
The other side, where I find a team
Of water fairies from whom I cannot
Hide. They spot me instantaneously
And with their fluid wings, begin to
Drown me in dew droplets, oh such
Gorgeous little things. There’s brooks
And streams and riverbeds all across
My skin; they dance and play and
Splash around - a tickling from within.
Miniature fire-fighters come straight out
To my rescue. Like a trail of ants they run
(Or crawl) all along my barren limbs; seems
To be my hotspot they’re so eagre to pursue.
They’re pretty quick, those tiny things, and
I come to greatly admire, that they’re so fast
In pointing out my whole body is on fire.
Defeat the heat within seconds, now I’m back
Down and lying face flat on the earth, hugging
A rainbow blanket and feeling full of mirth
As in a mere moment it so clearly comes to
Me: what I believed was an acid tongue was
-It’s plain to see– nothing but my alter ego’s
Most unwelcome company. However, she
Lies sleeping on the ground with nothing
Left to say, and as I keep twirling around
I grab the chance, since now I may: I’m free!
I shout for all to see, and hear if they tune in,
For my true love, in reality: may the play begin
