keep kissing (phoenix)

There’s a merry-go-round
Which isn’t that merry
To keep going ‘round

It cycles from longing
To loss; visits blame and
Redemption, then fear or
Regret & a fair bit of pain
Then on to forgiveness
And the purest of love;
It returns to the longing
Heads straight for the loss
And comes right back again
Going ‘round and ‘round
This merry-go-round

We kiss and fall off
We kiss and make out
We kiss and fall out
We kiss and make up
We kiss and take off

We keep kissing,
Seeing each other
Through the eyes
Of our fragile I’s
But so very often
We’re failing to see
That you are me
And I am thee

Both loving and hurting
And rife with this strife
And battling to continue
This mad journey of life

Your pain is mine;
That’s ‘cause I caused it.
My hurt is yours;
And you, you endorsed it.

Around and around…
This merry-go-round

Secretly playing
Silently praying
For the finish line to be nigh
So let’s aim to end on a high:
We keep kissing each other
On the lips of our souls, but
Kiss this old pattern goodbye
