punish (phoenix)

Eat, pray, love
You say, and I’ve
Heard it before
As I knocked on
Your door,
Unopened

So I move into
A bed that could
Always be had
Even if its warmth
Will quickly falter

You say it again
But now as a man
And I hear your call
And I heed another

Sleep in a den
Just ‘cause I can
And punish you
By punishing me
For loving it way
Too fiercely

Yet wake up alone
Bruised to the bone
Hell-bent on revenge
I beg him to stay
Until he goes away
But then once again
His absence keeps -
Your absence keeps -
Our absence keeps
My heart at bay

Or so I pray;
Or so I pray.
